Accessibility
The path is intended to be suitable for walkers/ cyclists/ wheelchairs/ pushchairs, although the last section north from Tidenham Tunnel towards Tintern is on Forestry England tracks and is a little bumpy.

The Tidenham Tunnel gates are left ajar during daytime to to reduce drafts for the bat population - the gate opening is 1.2m which should allow most users access to the tunnel.

If you are taking the bus or train into Chepstow please see the map below to walk to the start of the Wye Valley Greenway. This route does follow the busy A48 for a short section but provides lovely views of Chepstow Castle.

Route from Chepstow Bus and Train Station

Two bus services, 72 and C4, run from Chepstow Bus Station to Sedbury (Mon – Sat), but they follow different routes through Sedbury and serve different stops. The nearest stops to the entrance to the Greenway are approximately 4-6 minutes walk:

72 coming from Chepstow:  West side of Beachley Rd, near a side road called Wyebank Avenue (The final destination is Lydney).
72 going to Chepstow Bus Station: East side of Beachley Road, near a side road called The Martins.

C4 coming from Chepstow: East side of Wyebank Road, just past the entrance to Wyebank Close. (The final destination is Beachley).
C4 going to Chepstow Bus Station: West side of Wyebank Road, at the bus shelter opposite the entrance to Wyebank Close.

Maps of both these routes, showing all stops, can be downloaded from the Newport Bus website.

Both these routes call at Chepstow Tesco supermarket (in both directions) which is a short walk from Chepstow Railway Station.

Contactless payment is accepted on all of the busses. If you pay cash please tender the exact fare as change is not given.

The services are two-hourly but timings are co-ordinated so that there is a service to and from Sedbury every hour.  There are no Sunday services.

If you only want to walk in one direction why not take a 69 bus which runs to and from Tintern and Chepstow. Please note the Bus doesn’t accept bicycles onboard.

Bus timetables can change at short notice, you are advised to check for recent service updates on the websites of their providers.

Toilet availability
There are public toilets in Chepstow, next to the tourist information office, and in Tintern, at the Abbey carpark, but nothing in-between.

Food and Drink
There are lots of places in Chepstow and Tintern to get food and drink. Please make sure you take water with you, especially on a hot day, and don’t forget water for your dog.

Phone signal
You aren’t able to get a phone signal within Tidenham Tunnel and for a short while North of the tunnel. Depending on the mobile phone network, reliable coverage can be obtained around Tintern Quarry. In an emergency please head to the nearest exit, or if you are unable, ask someone nearby to call for help once they have exited the tunnel.
